Keeping Up

Here is a view of how February is starting out. 

We have a few projects underway, but we are still seeing progress with TX 7.

The lights are on! TX 7 has low level power.  It was good to get some parts on and especially to get the waterpump on.  A few leaks showed where some O-rings had to be replaced.  And on we go.

Final phase to finishing the RF duct (to the feed line) is underway.

We can't neglect the other transmitters!  TX maintenance is also a task that needs to be done.

Building roof extension and service entry phase is underway. This is a great start for February.  We are grateful also for new help that has come for a few months.  Welcome to Laszlo and Marty and Jen.

Blower Test - Success

 The duct has been completed and installed for the RF blower.  This was such a tight fit it was really quite a job!!

And finally - the blower system is in place on TX 7.   Great work guys.  And then the final piece - to hit the switch and test the blowers.   Success!!   This stage is complete.

A Great Day for Ducts

Guam is experiencing some heavy rains these days.  It's certainly a good day for ducts.
We can hear the rain beating down outside the shop as the ducts are being fabricated (that is except for the time Jim is grinding and pounding the duct with hammer during fabrication!)

Meanwhile the duct for the Mod blower has been installed.  The longer RF blower duct needs to have the final touches done. 

Break for the New Year

Break from the project work? Well yes. Break of antenna cable? Yes. This post is going to take a 'break' from project update.

We had some amazing high trade wind gusts that got ahead of the antenna maintenance coming up. This was how 2013 started out for us

Fortunately we were able to switch to our spare transmitter and wait until January 2nd to start the repairs.  The winds are still quite strong.  Estimate of the wind while repairing the antenna - for the rigger at the top - was around 40 knots.   This was no small job.

 

Balun Raising

What a way to end the year.

Last week we connected the coax lines from the filter around to where the balun would be connected.  Then the procedure of putting the balun up resembled putting the filter in place.

Brian is the forklift operator.  He did all the heavy lifting.  This is the biggest part of the RF output. The balun weighs about 600 lbs and is 12 feet long.

                                     

 

 

 

 

Perry, Sterling, Jim, George and Mike secured the bracing in place as it is put into position. 

 

 

                                         Getting this connected and in place is a milestone.

Filter - Let's Get Balanced

The filter unit of the balun assembly was put in place today.  It was a lot easier than the one we put in last year!  This time we had a forklift that we could move about in the TX hall. This cut down on time and manpower needed.

It's been a long time that the the balun and filter units have been in their temporary storage.
Today we moved them into the building to get ready for installation.
