Convert SmartPhone to DRM 30 HF receiver!

Convert Smart Phone to DRM 30 HF receiver!

We are pleased to report successful use of an SDR Dongle used to directly receive and Decode DRM 30 over HF today.

The SDR Dongle is an RTLSDR v3 type connected to an android smartphone using an OTG cable (phone or tablet must be OTG capable).

The Software used:
1. Android driver (free)
2. DRM+SDR Android App ($4.99)

The Frequency of the HF broadcast is directly assigned within the DRM+ SDR app with two settings
1. Frequency in Hertz
2. RF Gain (0-512)

Demonstration video showing Clean DRM decode of AAC Audio and Journaline data along with live metadata.  (our signal was very strong, so only a short wire used for Antenna, DX'rs will need an appropriate Antenna)

** Updated 01/28/2020, SDRPlay type SDR has been added

Now anyone with a smartphone and a $20 SDR can receive DRM 30 HF broadcasts...

The new KTWR DRM schedule became effective 27 October

  1. Hey guys...I listened on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday within the past week and didn't hear anything using receivers in Japan, Korea, China and India. Did not hear any DRM mode broadcasts at all. Are you still broadcasting on the schedule above?

  2. Hi,
    Tnx for sharing!
Which Samsung phone do you use?
My older phones had no problems gandling the stick. My latest top new Honor 8X has big problems.
    Tnx for your reply!

  3. It is not clear how the frequency of the RTL SDR dongle is set. HF frequencies are only available using the direct sampling mode. By extending the range to 230 MHz would enable upconverters to be used.

My name is Marino, I cannot find the DRM+ app on Google play, can you tell me where I can download?
    Thanks a lot.

  5. Good afternoon everyone! Tried taking DRM using DRM + SDR program on smartphone. It turns out to receive only the text with the name of the station, the sound does not decode. All this is literally ten seconds, then the program starts scanning "Scanning". Tell me, maybe I'm doing something wrong. With the help of a computer and Dream, I receive the same stations perfectly. Using a smartphone, I tried to receive a more powerful and near station (Interradio Romania in Russian), the effect is the same, the sound appeared for two seconds with a characteristic metallic beat and that's it.
